The Retreat is an End of Life hospice facility for cats. We do not accept cats from the general public; we only receive cats through trusted partner organizations. Once again, we do not accept cats from the public at large. Any cat left at our door will be sent to El Paso Animal Services.

Hera Has Journeyed over the Rainbow Bridge!
Only a week after Hera joined us, we have had to help her over the Rainbow Bridge. Sunday evening what began as what we thought was a cold turned into extremely heavy breathing and fever. She was taken to our vet on Monday and we ran a battery of tests including x-rays. The x-rays showed a massive feline leukemia induced carcinoma in front of her heart. Rather than put Hera through more pain, we decided to help her cross over into eternal peace and sunshine. Surrounding her as she passed where the people who found her, the folks who initially cared for her and Mr & Mrs H. There were a lot of tears.
We have decided to leave Hera’s fund available for donations. These donations will be used only for the next kitties who come to the Retreat in extreme need. The funds already gathered were used to pay for her two vet bills and her cremation.
Remember, Cats are not throw away objects!
Welcome to Mandarin’s Retreat, a private home in El Paso, Texas moonlighting as a 501c(3) nonprofit haven for old, sick and abused cats. Please take a look around, meet our kitties and give us a follow on your social media platform of preference. Our rescue started out under circumstances that could politely be called “emergency” ones and while we have contributed almost $60,000 in 2025, of our own money. Expenses in 2025 exceeded $90K. We have no paid staff and only one part time volunteer beside the two of us. If you have some spare change rattling about in your pocket, please consider helping us help the sick kitties in our care.
