Molly & Twinkle Toes go to the Eye Vet

A week or so ago, we took Molly and Twinkle Toes across town to see Dr. Carla Hibbs at Eye Care for Animals. Her clinic is on the west side of El Paso and so the trip required a detour around a bunch of highway work. Anyway, once we arrived we were met with this sign:

This specialist clinic is a really nice and welcoming place. We were soon placed in a treatment room which had Molly’s and Twinkle’s names on the door. Molly was not happy to be out of the house and Twinkle considered the trip an adventure.

Dr. Hibbs first looked at Molly and, after a short Q&A, said Molly was right as rain. No return visit was needed. Because this was Twinkle’s first visit and we didn’t know the seriousness of her vision problems, her exam was a little longer.

Dr. Hibbs confirmed that Twinkle was partially blind, the result of an infection that happened while her little peepers were still closed. She also seemed to have an ongoing case of Feline Herpesvirus infection. Finally, Twinkle’s right eyelid folded inside and upon itself; something that will likely require surgery once she’s older.

Dr Hibbs organized medication therapy for Twinkle – steroid eye drops twice a week – and a return visit in three months and then we were off.

Both girls were happy to get back in their carriers, so after we cleared the bill (with funding from Vincent’s First Aid Kit donations), we started heading home.

We are incredibly lucky to have Dr Hibbs and her staff within an arm’s reach. El Paso lacks a lot of the big city specialist veterinary services, but the good Doc has been a true life (and eye) saver for our kitties for a while.

Thank you Dr Hibbs and crew!
